Travel Information and Directions
The conference takes place at the building Von-Melle-Park 9 (VMP9), the department of socioeconomics, on main campus of University of Hamburg.
If you want to use public transport (hvv) in Hamburg, you can buy tickets at all U-Bahn (underground) and S-Bahn (suburban railway) stations. The different fare zones can be confusing – it might be best to enter the destination station at the vending machine, then the correct ticket will be displayed directly. You can also use the hvv app to buy tickets:

How to get from the central station or station „Dammtor“ to the university: Dammtor station is the closest station to the university. From the central station you can take one of the S-Bahn lines S21 (direction „Elbgaustraße“) or S31 (direction „Altona“). The ride only takes about two minutes. If you want to walk from the central station to the university it will take you about 40 minutes. From the station Dammtor, it is a twelve minute walk to the conference site: At Dammtor, leave the main hall of the station in the direction of „Theodor-Heuss-Platz / Moorweide / Universität“, also labelled „Exit B“. Directly after the exit, turn left and walk along Edmund-Siemers-Allee. When you pass a second exit of the station on your left, cross the street at the traffic lights and continue along Edmund-Siemers-Allee in the same direction. You will pass the main building of the university and then a small meadow. When the road forks, stay on the pavement and turn half-right into Grindelallee. You will pass some small cafés and restaurants. Between the bookshop „Heinrich Heine“ and the copy shop „ADUPUC“ turn right into Fröbelstraße and walk through the first underpass, above which „VMP 5“ is written. The way leads into a courtyard. Turn left there and you will reach the building Von-Melle-Park 9 (VMP 9) on your left. There is a red banner „Sozialökonomie“ above the main entrance.
How to get from Hamburg airport to the city centre and the university: When you arrive at Hamburg airport, take the S-Bahn line S1 in the direction of „Wedel“ or „Blankenese“. In about 25 minutes it will take you to the central station, where the city centre is located and where you can change to all U-Bahn and S-Bahn lines. If you want to head directly for the university, change at the central station and take the S21 (direction „Elbgaustraße“) or S31 (direction „Altona“) to Dammtor station. You can find the directions from Dammtor to the conference site above. The entire way from the airport to the university will take at least 45 minutes.
How to get from Berlin airport to Hamburg central station: When you arrive at the airport in Berlin, take a regional train to Berlin central station. All in all, this will take about an hour. The trains to Hamburg run about every 30 minutes. There are different ticket categories for a train connection: You can book a ticket for a fixed train, which can be quite cheap („Sparpreis“) or a flexible ticket, which allows you to use every train on the day of travel, but is also more expensive („Flexpreis“). Nevertheless, it could be useful if your flight is delayed. The ride takes about two hours.

If you arrive in Hamburg a few days before the conference, you might be interested in the “9-Euro-Ticket“: In August, you can buy a special ticket for 9 euros and use all local and regional public transport as much as you want (long-distance trains like EC, IC and ICE are not included). Once purchased, you do not have to buy any other tickets for local public transport in Hamburg in August. The ticket can be purchased in the hvv app or here:

Attention: The ticket is only valid in the month of August as this is a special summer offer! There will be no such ticket in September, so you will have to buy regular tickets again from 1 September! If you only arrive in Hamburg on 30 August, the 9-Euro-Ticket will probably not be of interest for you.

Accommodation Options
For accommodation during the conference, contingents have been reserved
in two hotels:
Hotel Super 8 by Wyndham Hamburg Mitte offers single rooms for 99 euros
per night, which can be booked under the keyword „ESA Midterm“. The
rooms in this contingent are available for a period from 29 August to 2
September or from 30 August to 2 September. Bookings can be made by

Cancellation is possible up to two weeks before arrival. The rooms can
be paid on site, but credit card details must be provided at the time of
booking as a guarantee. Please note that the contingent is only available until six weeks before
the conference!

Hotel am Rothenbaum offers a smaller number of single rooms as well as a
few small double rooms and regular double rooms, which can be booked
under the keyword „ESA2022“. The travel period is from 30 August to 2
September. During this period, the three room categories mentioned above
are available for 85 / 95 / 99 euros per night. Breakfast can be booked
separately. If you would like to book a different period, please contact
